Overview

The Growing a Greener Mississippi contest encourages participants to compete for cash prizes by building affordable green homes across the state.

In addition to providing green homes for Mississippi families, the contest will provide information on the construction costs associated with green building methods and publicize the benefits to consumers who are interested in buying or renting green. The benefits to homeowners/ renters include lower maintenance costs, cleaner air, lower utility bills and less negative environmental impact from housing construction. The competition encourages construction of housing in varied settings throughout Mississippi, including urban, rural, and small town sites.

MHC will seek local and national recognition for the competition. An awards ceremony to announce the winners will focus on maximizing benefit of media exposure for the contestants and their green homes.
